Good day!

This week brought major updates from OpenAI, Canva and other AI platforms, alongside four new apps worth exploring.

From smarter AI models and creative tools to new applications simplifying design, document search and everyday tasks, here's what changed — and what's genuinely useful.

Let’s dive in!

M A R K E T I N G

🎨 SurgePix

Digest: AI can produce an attractive marketing graphic in seconds, but fixing a misplaced headline or changing one element can mean starting again. SurgePix lets you separate generated visuals into editable layers, replace text and refine individual areas without rebuilding the entire image.

For: Marketing teams, designers, agencies, content creators and small businesses regularly producing branded visuals.

Solves: Recreating AI-generated images and presentation graphics because a small correction changes the entire design.

Price: Free credits available. Introductory offers include Basic from $0.99/month and Pro from $4.99/month for the first three months; standard renewal pricing should be checked before subscribing.

Setup: Easy — use the browser-based editor, generate or upload a visual, and edit its elements on a canvas. Brand kits help maintain a consistent appearance. Optional developer integrations are available but aren't necessary for ordinary design work.

SurgePix is particularly interesting for anyone who has generated an almost-perfect social graphic, then spent longer correcting it than creating it. Layer editing could make AI considerably more practical for everyday marketing production, although the quality of complex edits still needs real-world testing.

🌱🔎 Instant Search

Digest: You remember what a document said, but not where you saved it. Instant Search searches local files by meaning rather than filename, finding relevant passages inside PDFs, notes, scanned receipts and other documents. The search runs entirely on your Mac.

For: Consultants, founders, researchers and professionals working with large collections of local documents.

Solves: Searching through folders and opening multiple documents to find information you know exists but cannot locate.

Price: Free.

Setup: Easy — download the Mac application, select folders to index and search using ordinary language. Requires macOS 15 or later and is optimised for Apple Silicon. The local search model requires approximately 1GB of storage.

🔥🎙️ Loqui

Digest: Loqui lets you speak naturally and turns your words into polished text inside whichever Mac application you're using. Choose a casual tone for a message or something more formal for an email. It also transcribes meetings and prepares written minutes.

For: Founders, consultants, sales teams, writers and professionals who spend considerable time composing messages or recording meeting notes.

Solves: Repeatedly typing emails, follow-ups and notes when speaking would be quicker, then spending additional time correcting the result.

Price: Free plan with a weekly usage allowance. Paid Pro options are available, although full current pricing could not be confirmed independently.

Setup: Easy — install the Mac application, configure its keyboard shortcut and allow microphone access. Dictation works at the cursor in supported applications without manually copying text between tools.

⚡ EVERYTHING ELSE IN AI TOOLS & MODELS

OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, a faster, more economical model for visual reasoning, computer use and routine professional work. Available through ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API, it is designed to make high-volume automation more practical. ChatGPT Work availability initially covers eligible paid plans.

Canva introduced Canva Craft, its first internally developed image-generation model. Available within Canva's Dream Lab, Craft supports detailed image creation, text rendering and editable design workflows, with output up to 2K resolution.

1Password introduced 1Password for Agents, a system intended to let authorised AI assistants sign in to online accounts without directly receiving users' passwords. Integration availability varies, but the announcement highlights an important requirement for AI systems that operate across existing services.

GitHub Copilot added GPT-6.1 Terra to its model selection for supported paid subscribers. The model targets everyday coding and command-line tasks, with availability rolling out across GitHub and supported development environments.

OpenAI made its Decisions API generally available, giving developers a faster way to classify information, route requests and make small decisions inside automated workflows. This is primarily relevant to companies building their own software rather than everyday users.

Oracle introduced 25 available AI applications across Oracle Fusion, addressing processes such as accounting reconciliation, workforce planning, procurement and customer operations. These are enterprise-focused capabilities, but they illustrate how business software is shifting towards completing approved processes rather than merely presenting information.

That's it for today!
